National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla (NDA)

The National Defence Academy is an iconic institution and hallmark of global excellence in the sphere of military education. Over the years it has emerged as a unique tri-services military academy, attracting the best youth from our nation and also from friendly foreign countries and transforming them into Officers. Apart from being leaders of men and women, the alumni have proved to be reputed mountaineers, cosmonauts, sportsperson, researchers, creative writers, artists, corporate honchos and more recently, even Olympic champions. The ‘Cradle’ has moulded youth and groomed them into ‘Leaders’ who have lived up to its ethos: ‘सेवा परमो धर्म:’ (Service before Self).

The Cadets undergo three years of rigorous military training to achieve the requisite academic and technical knowledge along with physical and endurance standards, with proficiency in troop games. The qualities of leadership, a desire for self-improvement and a drive to excel in every sphere of life are instilled in every Cadet.

NDA strives to be the premier tri-services training institution for producing leaders, equipped with mental, moral and physical attributes required to cope with the challenges of the future battlefield and capable of leading troops to victory.

Mission

NDA provides the highest standards of training in professional, intellectual, physical and leadership spheres and also moral and ethical grooming of Cadets using proven and innovative concepts, technologies and modern practices with a view to produce competent potential junior leaders for the Armed Forces.

Accessibility

Pune is connected by air, rail and road to all the metropolises and most major cities of the country. The National Defence Academy, historically known as ‘NDA’ to the locals is located on the way to Khadakwasla Dam. Visitors can either take cabs, auto/car rentals or buses from these locations.

Rail

All trains on the Central Railway and Western Railway route halt at Pune. The Pune railway station is about 18 Kms. A cab from the Railway station to NDA would cost around ₹270- ₹340 approximately. Buses cost around ₹25- ₹45 (Route No. 174, Non- AC), depending on the route taken.

Road

NH 48 connects Pune city. There are regular State Government and Private bus services connecting Pune city.

Air

One can fly to Pune from several International/ Domestic airports. NDA is about 28 Kms from Pune airport. A cab from the airport costs between ₹500 - ₹600 on an average day.
