Lt Gen Vipul Shinghal, AVSM, SM, Deputy Chief Of Integrated Defence Staff (DOT), HQ IDS
Lt Gen Vipul Shinghal, AVSM, SM is a Second Generation Army Officer who is an alumnus of the prestigious Doon School, Dehradun & National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla and was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in Dec 1988. The General Officer was General Officer Commanding, 'Sudarshan Chakra' Coprs, the Desert Strike Corps prior to his appointment as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (DOT), HQ IDS.
The General Officer has served in critical command, Staff & instructional appts in varied terrain & operational settings in his military career spanning over thirty five years. He has been an instructor at the School of Armoured Warfare, Ahmednagar & a Battalion Commander at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He has served in crucial staff appointments at all levels starting with the GSO-1(Ops) of 192 Mountain Brigade in High Altitude Area, Colonel Q of 25 Mountain Division deployed on the Line of Control, Brigadier General Staff(Operations) of a Strike Corps and Major General General Staff (Operations) of HQ Southern Command. He was Director Strategic Planning at the Army Headquarters where he led the implementation of the study on "Transformation of the Indian Army" and was also selected to be the Secretary of the prestigious National Defence College, New Delhi.
An expert in Mechanised Operation, the general officer has commanded 4(I) Armoured Brigade and 31 Armoured Division in the Desert Sector. For his professional excellence, he has been awarded with COAS & SWC Army Cdrs' Commendation Cards. For his distinguished service, he has been awarded with 'Ati Vishisht Seva Medal' & 'Sena Medal'.
Winner of the coveted "Silver Centurion" Trophy in his YOs Course, the General Officer is a graduate of the Defence Services of Staff College - Wellington, the Indonesian Army Staff College, College of Air Warfare Secunderabad & the National Defence College, New Delhi. He also holds two M.Phil degrees in Defence & Strategic Studies from Osmania University, Hyderabad and Madras University, Chennai.
The General officer is a keen golfer, an avid reader and also pursues creative and professional writing and has an abiding interest in leadership development.
