Erstwhile PF&M Dte of HQ IDS was optimised and new Indigenisation Dte was established on 25 Sep 20 as part of re-organisation of HQ IDS. DACIDS (Indigenisation) heads the directorate with Col (Indigenisation), Capt (Indigenisation) and Gp Capt (Indigenisation) as three staff officers from the three services.

Indigenisation Directorate at HQ IDS is responsible for coordinating indigenisation efforts of Armed forces, monitor indigenisation projects/ GoI Schemes such as iDEX, Make, monitor progress of Positive Indigenisation List (PIL), liaison with defence industry & industry bodies, R&D organisations/ MoD and coordinate domestic industry demonstrations/ interactions with CDS/ CISC. The Directorate maintains liaison with industrial associations such as CII, SIDM & FICCI to enhance mutual awareness levels and participation of industry for Indigenisation in procurement Projects of armed forces for interoperability and commonality assessment, obtain and collate the feedback from Indigenisation Dtes of DPSUs through the office of Secretary DP. The Directorate also maintains liaison with MoD Acquisition/ DDP, Private industry and production agencies engaged in indigenous development common to the three Services and conduct / participate in DEFEXPO, Aero India and Seminars pertaining to indigenisation.

Col (Indigenisation) also provides secretarial support to Principal Maintenance Officer Committee (PMOC) which is a sub committee of the Chief of Staff Committee (COSC) whose primary responsibility is to formulate policies concerning maintenance of common equipment in use in the three services through IMWGs. Currently seven IMWGs are working incessantly to formulate the policies for maintenance of identified common equipment as follows :-
