Lt Gen Dinesh Singh Rana, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, Ph D, Director General Of Defence Intelligence Agency And Deputy Chief Of Integrated Defence Staff (Intelligence)
Lt Gen Dinesh Singh Rana, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, Ph D was commissioned into 10th Battalion The GARHWAL RIFLES on 19 Dec 1987 and commanded the same unit. He is a graduate from National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and postgraduate from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. The General Officer is an alumnus of the prestigious National Defence College (New Delhi), Centre for National Defence Studies, Madrid (Spain) & National Defence University (USA). He has stood first in most of his professional courses.
In his illustrious career spanning more than 34 years, the General Officer has served extensively in a vast multitude of terrain and operational situations in India and abroad (Indian Military Training Team & United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon). The General Officer has commanded an Infantry Brigade and an Infantry Division in the Eastern Sector.
The General Officer has tenanted several prestigious instructional appointments at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, College of Defence Management, Secunderabad and Higher Command Wing, Army War College, Mhow. His Staff appointments include Brigade Major in a Independent Armoured Brigade, Deputy Director General Staff Duties, Brigadier Military Intelligence (East), Provost Marshal & Director General Staff Duties at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army). The General officer commanded Gajraj Corps in the Eastern Sector on the Line of Actual Control.
For his illustrative services, the General Officer has been conferred with operational awards of Ati Vishist Seva Medal and Yudh Seva Medal. As a young officer, he was awarded Sena Medal and Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card for gallantry in Kashmir. The General Officer has completed his Ph D on the topic related to China’s Defence Modernisation and has also authored various research papers and articles on leadership and strategic issues. His book “Two Decades that Shaped PLA as we know today” was published in 2023.
The General Officer is a keen sportsman and a regular Yoga practitioner. He is married to Mrs Shalini Rana and the couple is blessed with a son and a daughter.
