About

Board of Ethics and Registration for Indian System of Medicine is an Autonomous Board Constituted by the provisions of section 18 of the NCISM Act 2020.

The Board shall consist of a President and 8 Members out of which six members shall be chosen from the Ayurveda, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Unani disciplines in such manner that at least one member represents each such discipline separately.

Remaining 2 members shall be chosen from any of the disciplines of quality assurance, public health, law or patient advocacy.

In pursuance of the provisions of National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act 2020 (14 of 2020), the Indian Medicine Central Council (IMCC) Act 1970 (48 of 1970) has been repealed and all the provisions of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has been come into force with effect from the 11th day of June 2021.

Under the provisions of section 59 (2) of NCISM Act 2020 the Central Government has constituted the Commission and four Autonomous boards on the same day.

The Ministry of Ayush was formed on the 9th of November 2014 with a vision of reviving the profound knowledge of our ancient systems of medicine and ensuring the optimal development and propagation of the Ayush systems of healthcare. Earlier, the Department of Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) formed in 1995, was responsible for the development of these systems. It was then renamed as the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (Ayush) in November 2003 with focused attention towards education and research in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy.

Maintenance of a National Register of Indian System of Medicine enforcing high ethical standards and to ensure the availability of adequate and high-quality medical professionals of ISM (Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha& Sowa-Rigpa) in all parts of the country.
