The Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. Established in 1978, CCRUM serves as the apex governmental body for research in Unani Medicine and has been actively engaged in scientific research covering both applied and fundamental aspects of the Unani system.
Over the past four decades, the Council has made significant contributions in the areas of clinical research, drug standardization, survey and cultivation of medicinal plants, and literary research. In addition, CCRUM has undertaken research-oriented health extension services, along with Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities as integral components of its programmes.
The CCRUM Expression of Interest (EOI) scheme supports collaborative research projects in Unani Medicine by inviting proposals from eligible researchers and institutions. The scheme aims to leverage existing expertise and infrastructure to promote high-quality, evidence-based research. Specific calls for proposals are announced annually on the CCRUM website and through open notifications.
These initiatives aim to foster excellence in research aligned with the priority areas of the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), which include non-communicable diseases, communicable diseases, lifestyle disorders, women and child health, geriatric care, mental health, fundamental and pharmacological research, drug standardization and quality control, and the application of modern scientific tools such as artificial intelligence and machine learning for evidence-based Unani research.
The initiatives also seek to develop cost-effective therapeutic interventions and integrate traditional knowledge with modern scientific approaches. Submission of detailed research proposals, including clearly defined objectives, budgets, and timelines, is mandatory under the scheme.
